59 years ago on February 25th, 1967, Ewing High School senior Joe Pluta set the NJ state 2-Mile record while winning the indoor Group 4 State Championship held at the Jersey City Armory.

Pluta actually set 2 records on that date. He broke the meet record set by Bob Boglione from Bellville, and he broke the all-time NJ high school record--besting the mark set by Marti Liquori of Essex Catholic.

Both previous records were set in 1966.

In winning the indoor state meet, Pluta added another major highlight to his senior year. Just a few months earlier in the fall of '66 he was sectional champion in cross country.
